Landevennec - June 27, 2008

Message par Steve Thomas »

G'day gentlemen,

Firstly I'd just like to say what a wonderful resource you have here. Some interesting and absorbing features that can loose you for hours!

I wonder whether anyone could help me. During a visit to Bretagne to attend the Landiviseu Tiger Meet at the end of June, I stumbled across the decommissioned warships at Landevennec.

One is the Colbert, but I'm trying to identify the others. I think the La Galissonniere is there, but three frigates and an MTB evaded identification.

If anyone could help, I shall be very grateful.

Best regards,

Steve Thomas, UK.

Hi Steve,

providing you register first to this other forum specialized in french army history + you can read french, here you should be able to grab some informations about that Tiger meeting : http://militaria.conceptbb.com/le-bistr ... 3540e98d9c

I don't know which decom. french ships are now to be found iin Landevennec, but should you be interested in french (or german) navy history in the years 1930-45, feel free to contact me by MP if you want.

Cheers,

Jean-Daniel (expatriated for some years in Oxfordshire)

Hi Steve,

Three months ago, I saw at Landevennec anchorage (from the coast to the middle of the river):
- EV Henry, ex F749 aviso escorteur Victor Schoelcher class;
- Detroyat, ex F784 A69 D'Estienne d'Orves class;
- La Galissonniere, ex D638 escorteur d'escadre;
- Colbert;
- Duperre, ex D633 escorteur d'escadre;
and further:
- a personnal transport (not a MTB) from de naval station of Brest to the Ecole navale (naval academy).
Photos of the anchorage are available on http://www.antreizh.fr/crbst_6.html

Hi Basic,

thanks for the info. By the way, I sailed aboard the aviso escorteur EV Henry when she was based in Papeete - Tahiti, french Polynesia, 1987-88.

This decom. ship stayed for years anchored, with 2 other ones, in front of Brest harbour. I am glad to learn about her destiny and that she is still not yet scrapped.

Regards,

Jean-Daniel
